Museum Visit: Ink City and Portals
Date: 12 July 2021
Time: 4pm-5:30pm
Venue: JC Contemporary, Tai Kwun
Registration required, free
Jill Chun, assistant curator of “Ink City”, and Michelle Wong, guest curator of “Portals, Stories, and Other Journeys,” kindly offered us their time to talk to our members and friends on their current exhibitions at Tai Kwun, when the galleries were closed to the public. “Ink City” was a visual feast, showcasing a wide range of art works that challenge the medium ink or the idea of ink art. Next door, “Portals, Stories, and Other Journeys” literally functioned like a portal to the fascinating world of AAA’s Ha Bik Chuen Archive. Years of archival and curatorial hard work was shown through. Audience got to see how local artists approached and responded to the archive, and by engaging with these archival materials and art works in various ways, participants got to experience and complete the project themselves.
Feedback
“The exhibition tour provides a precious opportunity to talk to the curators. It is inspiring to listen to the curatorial stories and challenges behind two very different exhibitions: Ink City and Ha Bik Chuen Archive. It is also a good chance to connect with other Art History Alumni. Thanks HKUFAAA for the wonderful arrangement!”
