A private tour of an exhibition showing NFT art by five Hong Kong artists took place on a Saturday morning. The five artists are Evangeline “Mooncasket” Chan, Ophelia Jacarini, Kwok Mang-ho a.k.a “Frog King”, Rainbow Tse, Natalie Wong a.k.a. “Papersneaker. Their new works exemplified artistic energy unleashed by a technology which allows for the authentication of digital art.
The tour was hosted by our alumni Enid Tsui (Art Editor, South China Morning Post), and joining her on the day to share their creative journeys were “Frog King” and Rainbow Tse.
Frog King’s NFT is a video comprising of his performances in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Rainbow’s NFT is a digital painting of a familiar sight in Hong Kong, a pharmacy that stays open till late. A 3D virtual sculpture by Opehlia Jacarini was also in display as a hologram in a special frame.
As we learned from the tour, several of the artists minted NFTs for the first time and it was a great learning experience for everyone. Just as conceptual art has re-defined art in the past century, experimentation with the new NFT technology has prompted a re-think over the relationship between physical art and digital art.
