Hong Kong is famous for its beautiful city skyline, and among the many unique high-rises stands the iconic Bank of China Tower, designed by the world renowned architect Ieoh Ming Pei (1917-2019). “I. M. Pei: Life is Architecture,” the first full-scale retrospective of Pei, gives audience a close look at his various legendary projects around the world, his long standing values, as well as his unique practice and remarkable career as a whole. It was our pleasure to have Dr. Charles Lai, an architect (RIBA) and researcher in the history and conservation of Hong Kong and Asian modern architecture, guiding us through the comprehensive exhibition. Lai received his PhD degree in architectural history from the University of Hong Kong Department of Architecture, and diploma degree from the AA School of Architecture in London. He currently teaches at PolyU and Lingnan University. Lai is also a member of the DOCOMOMO HK Chapter, founder and director of the architectural studio & heritage conservation consultancy, aona.
